The Maintainer connects quickly to your battery via easy-to-use clip plugs, DC lighter plug or ring terminals to provide a complete charge of all internal cells. Rapid charge technology for faster, more accurate charging. View larger. Rapid Charge Technology for Faster Charging The Duracell 2 AMP Battery Maintainer is part of a family of ultra-compact, light weight and modern power inverters and chargers from Battery-Biz Inc. The Duracell line of Battery Chargers features rapid charge technology for faster, more accurate charging, and do not require installation or set up. The simple plug-and-charge solution makes these chargers ideal for extending and recharging all types of 12-volt lead acid batteries. The three stage charging process ensures the battery is always fully charged, but never overcharged. Duracell Battery Chargers utilize a microprocessor-controlled three-stage charging method which significantly extends the battery life. Multistage charging ensures that batteries receive optimum charging with minimal wear and tear by regulating the voltage and current delivered to the batteries in three automatic stages: Bulk, Absorption and Float. The bulk charging stage replaces 70-80% of the battery's state of charge at the fastest possible rate. After that the absorption charging stage replenishes the remaining 20-30% of charge, bringing the battery to a full charge at a slow, safe rate. Finally, at the float charging stage, the voltage is reduced and held constant in order to prevent damage and keep batteries at full charge. Complete, continuous charging in three stages that is safe for your batteries. View larger. Key Features - Extends the life of 12-volt batteries in ATVs, snowmobiles, motorcycles, cars, trucks and is ideal for deep-cycle RV and boat batteries
- Ensures that your vehicle battery will always be charged up and ready for use
- Micro-processor controlled three-stage charging provides a truly complete battery charge and extends battery life:
- Stage 1: Initial Charge - provides the bulk of the battery's power
- Stage 2: Absorption Charge - ensures a full charge of all of the battery's cells
- Stage 3: Float Charge: Steady "maintenance" charge prevents the gradual loss of power that occurs in occasionally-used batteries
- Can stay safely connected to your battery indefinitely for maintenance charging
- Three types of connectors provided with the unit allow easy connection and charging via clip leads, DC lighter plug or direct-connect ring terminals
- "Plug and play" charging solution; requires no installation or setup
- 2-amp constant DC output current

- Absorption - Replenishes the remaining 20-30% of charge, bringing the battery to a full charge at a slow, safe rate.
- Float - Voltage is reduced and held constant in order to prevent damage and to keep batteries at a full charge.
** Reconditioning Battery reconditioning is a deliberate overcharge designed to return all cell to optimum condition condition by reducing sulphation and stratification in the bettery. The overcharge helps the battery to reach and maintain peak capacity by equalizing the chemistry in the individual battery cells.

| Customer Reviews: Seems like a good long-term maintenance charger October 29, 2008 Graham (Palo Alto, CA) 42 out of 43 found this review helpful
I wanted a charger to keep my car battery charged (but not overcharged!) while I am absent on multi-week trips. So far the Duracell 2 Amp charger seems to be working well.
It is a three-stage charger. The specification says that depending on the current state of the battery, it will do a fast charge to around 80%, then a slower charge to almost full, then finally move to a lower voltage "floating" charge to keep the battery near 100% without overcharging.
I used a multimeter to watch the charging process. My battery was mostly full to start with, so the charger started charging at 14.1 volts (the slow charge mode) and then after a few hours moved to 12.7 volts (for the floating charge). These both seem appropriate voltages. In particular, the floating voltage of 12.7 volts should be safe for long-term battery maintenance.
After about two days on floating charge, my charger's red charging light finally went off. Over the next couple of weeks, when I checked the charger, the red charging light was mostly off but I occasionally noticed it on. It looks like the charger is moving between off and floating charge as needed for sustained maintenance.
I'll have to see how the charger holds up under long-term use, but so far everything looks good.
Update November 2009: I've been using this for over a year now and I continue to be very happy with it. It's pleasant to come back from a four week absence to a fully charged car battery, with zero hassles!

Product works as described. Connect and forget. Plenty of connection options,I especially liked the connector covers on the ring terminal connectors.
Great Product!! DOES WHAT IT STATES!! January 18, 2009 E. Cantu (Muscatine IA) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
This product is great!! It also has a low price.
I bought this for the cold winters here in Iowa. I have older cars they are 96, 92, 01. I just connect them through the lighter option connection and switch them every day.
My cars always start now. No problems at all.
This charger/maintainer is perfect for older cars that tend to lose their charges during cold sub zero cold nights.
Would highly recommend!!!
Solid Machine August 25, 2009 SMN (USA) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I use this with my classic motorcycles and it's taken a beating. Gotten soaked and dried out. Fallen to the concrete floor on numerous occasions, and it's still running like a swiss watch.
All the connectors are great too.
The Cigarette Plug/Power Outlet Plug is the Best Feature! April 7, 2010 Peter Parker Jones (Los Angeles, CA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Cigarette Plug/Power Outlet Plug is the best feature. Most battery retainers come with clamps requiring the user to open the hood and clamping the leads to the battery and a body part. This unit plugs directly into the cigarette lighter/power outlet. As the amperage is greater than the drain on the battery (the battery is always draining because it is hooked up to the car), the electrical flow goes toward the battery and it keeps fully charged! No brainer to use. Note: if the power light does not light up when it is plugged into the AC send it back right way via Amazon.com return.
